This site is outstanding! Thanks for all the work to compile and make it available to all. I go out to SMP most weekends and enjoy learning about the area and its history.
South mountain was originally called mount sapoa mountain of Mercy. Tombs can still be found on South Mountain. Jeff woolwine was the first person to discover and prove that the petroglyphs on south mountain are ufo sightings. Look for his book. The phoenix lights petroglyphsinthesky landscape for the spirits. See photos of the tombs and understand what the rock art truly means.

Is this discussion still active? I am an 83-year-old great grandmother with very little knowledge about computers in general or blogs in particular, so please bear with me. I am gathering information about my father, Colonel Waldo V. Joyce (1903-1986), US Army Reserve. Based on a recent conversation I had with AI (I can't believe I am actually saying that) I learned my father, a captain at the time, was the commander of the CCC camp at South Mountain in February 1934. I knew he had been commander of a CCC camp in Gunnison County, CO but not the one near Phoenix. AI provided a link to your blog. If anyone can provide leads to additional information, I would deeply appreciate your help. If you prefer, you can email me directly at bj213@bellsouth.net. Thank you.
