South Mountain Aerial Photo from the 70's
Note the International Harvester Proving Grounds where the Foothills is today. Also most of Ahwatukee hasn't been built, and the Pointe at South Mountain (Arizona Grand) is not finished.

Does anybody know why there's a bunch of roads, and what looks like an airstrip in the middle left side of this photo (present day Desert Foothills Parkway)? I first noticed it while viewing historic aerials on another site and have been intrigued since. Could the Ahwatukee Foothills be a past military site? Launch silos? Maybe just a mining operation?
